This set includes Volumes 1-3 of the Original Homeschooling Series PLUS three bonus books by Charlotte Mason AND three more bonus books by other authors that compliment Miss Mason’s philosophy quite nicely!

Altogether, this CD contains nine books by or about Charlotte Mason and her method. Each book has been digitally preserved by photo scanning each page and converting each book to a pdf. Altogether, this CD contains over 3,000 pages of excellent resources for your family!

For a limited time, you can get this set of nine books for an introductory price of just $13.95! When you consider that these books individually can cost from $13 to over $20, this is a fantastic deal!

————————————————————————————————–

Charlotte Mason was a wonderful woman who lived in the late 19th century and early 20th century. She was orphaned at the age of 16, and gave her life to educating children. She was far ahead of her time, as most educators saw children as merely buckets to pour lots of information into. Miss Mason, on the other hand saw children as needing great ideas presented in interesting ways to have their minds quickened into learning all they could about the world, and how they would fit into it. She knew they were capable, intelligent, and thoughtful beings. She believed every child deserved a great education, and that the child’s parents could give it, if they had the right information. So, she set out to teach not only professional educators, but parents how to teach their children well. As a result of her life’s work, millions of children have been educated with excellence. As the homeschooling movement has enjoyed a resurgence, Miss Mason’s thoughts have again become popular with parents who want to give their children an excellent education.

Books included in this collection by Charlotte Mason

Home Education Lectures by Charlotte Mason – her first efforts to show parents how to give their children an excellent education at home was accomplished through a series of lectures given by Miss Mason, and compiled into this volume. The lectures were first delivered in 1885 and 1886.

Home Education by Charlotte Mason – Volume 1 of the Original Homeschooling Series, this is the book that grew out of that series of lectures. It was published in multiple editions as her practices became more popular and more parents and professional educators wanted to learn her ways.

Parents and Children by Charlotte Mason – (Volume 2 of the Original Homeschooling Series) This is a collection of articles that first appeared in the “Parent’s Review” magazine. This was a publication designed to keep parents and teachers who used the method in touch with Charlotte Mason and others using the method. Much like today’s homeschooling magazines, it was an encouragement to those on the journey of educating their children.

School Education by Charlotte Mason – This book, which is volume 3 of the Original Homeschooling Series, addresses the education of children ages 9-12. Here Miss Mason shared some specific examples of books and curriculum she herself used in her own teaching.

The Forty Shires by Charlotte Mason- Even before she began lecturing and writing about her philosophy of education, Miss Mason traveled throughout England and wrote about the geography of her beloved country. This book is a general introduction to the forty shires that make up England.

Geographical Readers for Middle Class and Elementary Schools by Charlotte Mason- This is one of the readers in the London Geographical Series, and concerns “the countries of Europe, their scenery and peoples.”

Bonus Books by Other Authors

In Memoriam of Charlotte Mason – This is a work put together after the death of Charlotte Mason in 1923. There is a record of a report Miss Mason herself gave to the Whitsontide Conference – for the PNEU schools – this was presented about a year before her death. The rest of the book is full of memorials and tributes written by former colleagues, students, as well as a few poems and other short writings by Miss Mason herself.

Type Lessons for Primary Teachers in the Study of Nature, Literature, and Art by Anna E. McGovern – This book was written in the USA, but many of the lessons presented in this books fit quite nicely within the methods put forth by Charlotte Mason. A quote from the introduction: “The aim of Nature Study is twofold: First, to cultivate the higher nature of the child and lead him toward his Creator; and, secondly, to develop his intellectual powers and lead him to acquire a knowledge of his physical environment.” The lessons are arranged by season, and the author wonderfully links the beauty of nature with the beauty found in the great masterpieces and grand literature. These and other characteristics earned this volume a place in this collection.

On The Trail an Outdoor Book for Girls by Lina and Adelia B. Beard – this 1922 volume is chock full of illustrations, photos and descriptions of the wonderful things one can see and do in the outdoors on a weekend outing. This book was, obviously, aimed at girls, and as such, the photos concern girls who are enjoying the creation. However, anyone can benefit from the drawings and lessons in this book. As this book shows so well how one can learn to love the ‘wilderness’, as it’s called in the book, it seems to fit quite nicely with this collection.

About the CD
